NORWICH, CT-The Connecticut Tigers (1-3) fell 12-7 to the Staten Island Yankees (3-2) in game one of a doubleheader from Dodd Stadium. The Yankees scored crooked numbers in four of the seven innings.

In the top of the first inning the Staten Island Yankees put a quick run on the board. After Tigers starter Sandy Baez (0-1) retired the first two batters center fielder Drew Bridges doubled and scored one batter later on a RBI single by designated hitter Drew Bridges to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

Connecticut answered right back in the bottom of the first against Yankees starter Domingo Acevedo. With Brett Pirtle on first and two outs in the inning designed hitter Will Allen doubled to left center to tie the game at 1-1.

The tie was short lived however. Third basemen Brandon Wagner walked to start the visitor half of the second. Two batters later with two-outs in the inning and after Wagner stole second, center fielder Jeff Hendrix drove him home to put the Yankees back on top 2-1. Hendrix moved to second on the throw home and scored just a few pitches later on the single by right fielder Junior Valera making the score 3-1.

Staten Island extended their lead to 6-1 in the top of the fourth. The big hit in the inning came off the bat of center fielder Griffin Gordon who drove in two with a single.

Connecticut would get as close as two in the bottom of the fourth. Two Yankee errors opened the door for the Tigers and they capitalized. The rally was capped on an RBI single by first basemen Jacob Kapstein making it 6-4. Relief pitcher Yoel Espinal (1-0) was able to come out and put out the fire getting the final two outs of the inning.

However, Staten Island was far from done as they scored eight runs over the course of the last three innings. The big blow a three-run home run coming off the bat of first basemen Ryan Krill in the fifth.

Connecticut would make some noise late and Ignacio Valdez hit his first home run of the season and also added an RBI double.
