Doubledays Blow past State College

STATE COLLEGE, PA - For the third time this year, Auburn won a game by the score of 9-5. Today's win over State College moves the Doubledays to 4-1 on the young season and a game back of Williamsport in the Pickney Division.

The Spikes took the early lead in the third thanks two singles by Danny Martin and Mike Pirtchard and a double that knocked them both in by Ronnierd Garcia.

After Auburn, knocked in a run on a double by Kelvin Gutierrez in the top of the fifth, State College answered with a run of its own on singles by Pritchard and Grayson in the home half of the fifth.

In the sixth, the Doubleday's finally put it all together. Thanks to back-to-back-to-back singles to lead off the inning by Bryan Mejia, Dalton Dulin, and Matthew Page, the Doubledays took the lead in a four-run sixth. Page knocked in the first run, Guiterrez walked in the second, and then Jorge Tillero slapped a single into left to drive in the final two runs.

Auburn added another run in the seventh and State College responded with a run in the eighth to put the score at 6-5 in favor of the Doubledays through eight. In the top of the ninth, Auburn added three more thanks to a couple of singles and several walks to go up 9-5.

Also of note, the Nationals' fourth round draft pick Mariano Rivera Jr. and seventh round pick Grant Borne made their professional debuts. Rivera Jr. gave up two hits over two scoreless innings while striking out four. Borne gave up one run on three hits over two frames while walking one and striking out two.

The Doubledays look to take the series during tomorrow's rubber match game with the Spikes at 7:05.
