Lowell Spinners News Release
FISHKILL, NY - For the second time in six games the Lowell Spinners had a second inning outburst, plating seven Wednesday night before adding three additional runs in the fourth en route to a convincing 10-1 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades at Dutchess Stadium.
The win capped a strong road-trip to start the 2015 season as the Spinners return to Lowell for the home opener with a 5-1 record.
Lowell (5-1) jumped on Renegades starter Greg Maisto in the second inning. An Aneudis Peralta RBI single plated the game's first run before he himself came around to score on Luis Alexander Basabe's RBI triple. With two-outs, following walks to Jemile Weeks and Tate Matheny to load the bases, Tucker Tubbs tripled to the gap, clearing the bases. A passed ball would score Tubbs to cap the inning's scoring.
The Spinners would extend the lead in the fourth inning. Weeks led off the inning with a single and an error allowed Bryan Hudson to reach base. After a walk by Tubbs loaded the bases, RBI singles by Zach Kapstein and Victor Acosta plated runs and a ground-out by Peralta gave the Spinners a 10-0 lead.
Hudson Valley (4-2) would plate a run in the fifth against Luis Ramos (1-0, 7.27), but the young left-hander bounced back from a rough start on Opening Day with six strong innings. He allowed just the one run on six hits, striking out two. Randy Perez picked up the save with three scoreless innings of relief. He allowed one hit and walked one.
Offensively every starter reached base at least once. Acosta led the offense with three hits, while three Spinners tripled in the game (Hudson, Basabe and Tubbs). Hudson extended his season opening hitting streak to five games, while Tubbs (3) and Peralta (2) each had multi-RBI games.
The Spinners now return to LeLacheur Park for their home opener in front of what is expected to be a sell-out crowd. Danny Rosenbaum (0-0, 0.00) gets the ball for what is expected to be a 7:15 first pitch. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Magnetic Schedule and the game will feature the grand opening of the Dugout Tavern, which opens at 5pm.
