
Black Bears Defeated by Batavia 4-1 on Independence Day

West Virginia Black Bears News Release
The West Virginia Black Bears were defeated by the Batavia Muckdogs 4-1 on Saturday night at Monongalia County Ballpark. OF Logan Hill led the way offensively for the Black Bears by going 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
With the loss the Black Bears fall to an overall record of 6-9 this season while the Batavia Muckdogs improve to 4-11 with the victory.
The Black Bears got things going early in the first inning when OF Ty Moore singled home Hill who reached by a deep triple to centerfield. The Muckdogs struck back with 4 consecutive doubles in the top half of the second to jump out to a 3-1 lead. The two teams were held scoreless until Batavia added on another run in the eighth on an RBI single.
SP Bret Helton was saddled with the loss (0-3) after tossing 1.1 innings and allowing three runs (all earned). RP Cesilio Pimentel had a strong performance on the hill as he pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless relief while striking out seven Muckdogs hitters. Batavia starter Nick White picked up his first win of the season (1-1) after pitching 5.0 innings, allowing one run (earned).
The Black Bears return to action tomorrow afternoon when they face the Muckdogs in the second game of the series with a scheduled start time of 4:05 p.m. P Hector Garcia is scheduled to start for West Virginia while Batavia is slated to start P Brett Lilek.
