Wilson Lifts Hudson Valley Over Staten Island

Staten Island, NY - The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Staten Island Yankees by a score of 3-1 on Saturday evening at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. Hudson Valley improved to 8-7 on the season while Staten Island fell to 9-7.

After three scoreless innings, the Renegades scored the games first run in the top of the fourth inning. Shortstop Michael Russell doubled to lead off the inning, moved the third base on a ground out by third baseman Alex Schmidt and scored on an RBI infield single by Angel Moreno.

Staten Island tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-out RBI single by left fielder Griffin Gordon. That ended the night for Hudson Valley's starter Roel Ramirez, who gave up an un-earned run off five hits in four and two-thirds innings.

The 'Gades responded right back in the top of the seventh inning when first baseman Nic Wilson hit a solo home run, giving Hudson Valley a 2-1 lead. That lead was extended to 3-1 in the top of the eighth inning as second baseman Oscar Sanay, who singled to lead off the inning, scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by right fielder Manny Sanchez.

Brad Wallace (2-0) picked up the win after coming in relief of Ramirez in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wallace gave up just one hit in four and a third innings while striking out six batters. Bret Marks (0-1) took the loss for the Yankees, giving up two runs in two and two thirds innings.
