Auburn Doubledays News Release
WILLIAMSPORT, PA - Auburn fell behind early and could never mount a comeback as it fell to Williamsport by the score of 6-1 for the second straight night and was swept as a result.
All six of the Crosscutters runs crossed home in the first inning. The first four hitters scored the first four runs thanks to two singles by Mark Laird and Venn Biter, a double by Jose Pujols, and a fielder's choice by Josh Tobias that didn't result in any outs because of an error.
After the top four hitters scored, the other two players to score for Williamsport were Jesus Posso who singled and Grenny Cumana who doubled. Cumana drove in Posso while Zach Coppola drove in Cumana with a single to right. Coppola's RBI single was the sixth and final hit of the first inning. Mark Laired grounded into a fielder's choice to end the first after he started it with a single.
Auburn's starting pitcher, Matt Crownover, didn't make it out of the first inning. Crownover's line was 0.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K and he took the loss to drop to 0-3.
The Doubledays' lone run came in the third. Andrew Stevenson singled into right with one out and ultimately moved to third on a single to the third baseman Jan Hernandez by Kelvin Gutierrez. On the same play, Hernandez tried to throw out Gutierrez at first, but his throw sailed into the seats along the first baseline allowing Stevenson to score from third.
Neither team recorded a hit in the third or fourth innings before Williamsport notched a pair of singles in the fifth, but the Crosscutters stranded the hitters on first and third. After Auburn's singles in the third, the next Doubledays hitter to record a hit was in the seventh when Melvin Rodriguez singled. An inning later in the eighth Gutierrez doubled, but he was stranded on second.
Franklyn Kilome started for the Crosscutters and had an impressive line of 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K and earned his second win of the season as a result.
Auburn's bullpen was very impressive after taking over for Crownover in the first. Andrew Lee, Grant Borne, and Koda Glover combined to throw 7.1 scoreless innings while giving up just three hits. The trio didn't walk a single batter and struck out five.
The Doubledays return home on Saturday July 4 to host the State College Spikes at 7:05. Erick Fedde toes the rubber for the third start of his professional career. The righty is 0-0 with a 1.29 ERA.
Friday's Particulars:

LP - Matthew Crownover (0-3)
