Scrappers lose to Aberdeen

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers (5-10) fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds (7-9) by a score of 4-3 at Eastwood Field on Saturday night.

The Scrappers led for most of the game, in front of 3,897. Mahoning Valley led Aberdeen 3-2 going into the 8th inning, but Devon Stewart allowed a double to Austin Pfeiffer. He scored on a single for Ricardo Andujar. The single came against Billy Strode. Earlier in the inning, Jerry McClanahan was hit by a pitch. He scored in the inning on a Cedric Mullins single to left.

Ka'ai Tom had hits in his first three at bats, and finished the night 3-for-5. Connor Marabell continues to swing a hot bat. He was 3-for-4, and has five hits in his last eight at-bats. Jared Robinson was solid in his third start of the season. He gave up just one earned run in five innings pitched.

Stewart (0-1) picked up his first loss of the year, while Strode blew the save (BS, 1). He came in in the eighth with two outs to keep the run from scoring. Elias Pinales (2-0) earned the win, while Ryan Meisinger earned his second save.

The Scrappers and IronBirds play the second game of their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. Kieran Lovegrove gets the start for Mahoning Valley against Jean Cosme. First pitch is at 4:05 at Eastwood Field.
