Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the "AA" affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers, and the ECHL have announced today that Nailers defenseman Paul Bissonnette has been named to the American Conference All-Star Team. This marks the second consecutive year that Bissonnette will represent Wheeling at the all-star game.
There are 13 rookies on the American Conference and Bissonnette is one of two (out of the 21 players) that have already played in an ECHL All-Star Game.
Bissonnette was recalled to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on December 11. At the time, he was tied for second in the league with 17 points (3g, 14a) by a defenseman. He has also accumulated 43 penalty minutes in his 22 games played.
The third year pro was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round (#121 overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Over his three seasons with the Nailers, Bissonnette has accounted for 69 points (16g, 53a) in 101 games.
Hosted by the Stockton Thunder and the City of Stockton at Stockton Arena, the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game presented by Jackson Rancheria and Bud Light will be played on Jan. 23 with the 11th edition of the Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game Skills Competition being held on Jan. 22.
The starting lineups are determined in voting by American Conference coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and media members. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference to determine the final roster with each of the 16 teams having a representative.
Wheeling returns to WesBanco Arena for a pair of games with the Elmira Jackals this Friday and Saturday. The first 2,500 fans in attendance on Saturday will receive Pittsburgh Penguins Collectors Cups and the Nailers will also be holding a food drive. Fans that bring a non-perishable food item will receive $2 off the admission price. On Sunday the first 2,500 fans will receive Santa mini-bobbleheads courtesy of Jackson Hewitt. Both games will begin at 7:35pm. Call 304-234-GOAL for more information or visit www.wheelingnailers.com.
