Owens selected as ECHL All-Star

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers are pleased to announce that rookie forward, Jordan Owens has been selected to the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star game representing the American Conference.

Owens, 6-foot-1, 181 pounds, has played in 15 games for the Checkers this season picking up three goals and seven assists for 10 points with 26 penalty minutes. The Toronto, Ontario born winger started his professional career with a brief stint for the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League last year playing in two games (zero points). He also began this year with Hartford and suited up for six games tallying one goal and two assists for three points.

Hosted by the Stockton Thunder and the City of Stockton at Stockton Arena, the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game presented by Jackson Rancheria and Bud Light will be played on Jan. 23 with the 11th edition of the Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game Skills Competition being held on Jan. 22.

The starting lineups are determined in voting by American Conference coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and media members. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference to determine the final roster with each of the 16 teams having a representative.

There are 13 rookies on the American Conference and only two of the 21 players have played in an ECHL All-Star Game.

The Checkers began their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Dec. 20 against the Gwinnett Gladiators. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
