Published on August 27, 2007 under International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Buffalo Bisons won their sixth Thruway Series Championship with an 8-7 victory over the Syracuse Chiefs, Monday night at Dunn Tire Park.
In its 10th year, the Thruway Series features the three Triple-A teams located in New York State -the Bisons, Chiefs and Rochester Red Wings. The team with the best winning percentage in head-to-head competition wins the Thruway Cup. The Herd is now 17-10 this year against the Chiefs (14-17) and Red Wings (12-16) with only five Thruway Series games remaining.
It's the second consecutive Thruway Series Championship for the Bisons and sixth in the last eight years.
When the competition was organized in 1998, it was agreed upon that any team winning the cup three times would "retire" the cup and get to keep it (a new one would be made for the following season). This is the second Cup the Bisons have "retired."
