Buffalo Bisons News Release

The International League today named Bisons third baseman Andy Marte the league's Batter-of-the-Week for the period from August 20-26. It's the second time the slugger has taken home the honor, also winning the IL's weekly award from June 4-10.

In seven games last week, Marte averaged .409 (9-22) with two doubles, three home runs, 10RBI and a .909 slugging percentage. He hit safely in the last six games beginning with a home run and two RBI on Tuesday in Ottawa. Marte had two hits and an RBI on Wednesday against Pawtucket and went a combined 3-6 with two RBI in the Herd's doubleheader split with the Red Sox on Friday. Marte then helped the Bisons sweep a two-game series from the first place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees by homering in both games of the weekend set (five RBI).

Marte is now hitting .262 (85-324) in 89 games with the Bisons this year. His 16 home runs are tied with Ryan Mulhern for the team lead while his 58RBI are third. His .460 slugging percentage is fourth on the Bisons.

Marte hit .462 (12-26) with four home runs and 11RBI from June 4-10 to earn the award earlier in the year.

Two other Bisons have won the league's weekly awards -RHP Sean Smith (May 14-20) and OF Jason Cooper (July 30-August 5).
