TODAY'S GAME: Tonight the Buffalo Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the first game of a two-game set from Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m.). Following a two-game sweep of Scranton/WB, the Herd is 4-1 on their final homestand of the regular season (7 games). On the hill today will be LHP Jason Stanford, who is in search of his fourth straight win. The Chiefs' will counter with RHP Josh Banks.

VS. THE CHIEFS: The Bisons are 8-6 against the Chiefs this year and can clinch the season-series with a win tonight. Buffalo has hit .303 off Syracuse pitching this year, led by Ryan Mulhern (.417, 2HR, 12RBI) and Luis Rivas (.415, 1HR, 8RBI).

IL BATTING RACE: With two hits yesterday, Ben Francisco reclaimed the lead in the IL batting race. At .321, he is four points ahead of Rochester's Jose Morales and Richmond's Martin Prado -who's back to active with the Braves. The last Bisons batter to win a batting championship was Mark Ryal, who hit .334 in 1990 in the American Association.

SWEET AND SOWERS: LHP Jeremy Sowers has won his last three starts, posting a 2.66ERA. In fact, since July 20, Sowers is 4-1 with a 2.15ERA (46.0IP, 43H, 11ER, 34K). In his last outing, he allowed two runs in 6.1 innings to defeat Pawtucket on Wednesday. The last time he faced Syracuse (July 20) , Sowers threw a complete game victory (9.0IP, 6H, 2R, 0ER, 3BB, 8K).

MARTE HONORED: Andy Marte was named the IL Batter-of-the-Week today for the second time this year. In seven games, Marte hit .409 (9-22) with two doubles, three home runs and 10RBI. He also took the honor from June 4-10. Marte homered in both games this weekend against the Yankees and is now tied with Ryan Mulhern for the team lead in homers (16).

THE CUP IS ON THE LINE: With a victory tonight, the Bisons would clinch the 2007 Thruway Cup Series Championship. Buffalo (16-10) is 4.0 games up on Syracuse (14-16) and five games up on Rochester. The Herd has won the Cup in five of the last seven years. A 2007 victory would allow the Bisons to retire the second Thruway Cup since the competition began in 1998.

SUPER JOE: Joe Inglett tied Greg Tubbs for the most triples in the Bisons Modern Era with his 18th yesterday. Inglett had nine in 2005, two last year and leads the 2007 Bisons with eight. Inglett now has 21RBI in his last 18 games.
