Today's Game

This afternoon, the Bisons host the Rochester Red Wings in the 2016 Home Opener from Coca-Cola Field (2:05 p.m.). Buffalo began the season with a seven-game roadtrip over which they were 3-4. The Herd's abbreviated homestand includes two games with Rochester and two with Pawtucket over the weekend.

Last Game

The Bisons lost to the Chiefs, 3-2, on Wednesday in a game that took 13 innings and four hours and four minutes to complete. Syracuse's Scott Sizemore hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th off Bisons relief, RHP Ben Rowen. OF Domonic Brown went 2-5 with an RBI and steal of third base in the defeat.

Home Openers

Today is the 28th anniversary of the first game played at Coca-Cola Field. Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame C Tom Prince homered in a 1-0 win over Denver on April 14, 1988. The Bisons have a 17-11 record in Home Openers since then, including a 6-3 loss to Rochester last year.

vs. Rochester (0-0)

The Bisons will face the Red Wings 19 times this season, two more than in last year. Buffalo was just 7-10 against their closest rival in 2015, but did have a 5-4 record at Coca-Cola Field. The Bisons had a winning record against Rochester in each season, 2010-2014 (49-31).

Scott Diamond

LHP Scott Diamond gets the Home Opener start for the Herd. The southpaw allowed just one run in five innings on Saturday in Pawtucket to earn Buffalo's first victory of the season. The Guelph, Ontario-native won 11 games last season for Durham, tied for the 3rd-best in the IL.

Switching Teams

The Toronto Blue Jays recalled SHP Pat Venditte on Wednesday. The reliever struck out five of the six batters he faced in two hitless appearances for the Bisons. Venditte only faced right-handed batters in his two innings of work with Buffalo.

PDC Extension

On Tuesday, the Bisons and Blue Jays announced a two-year extension of their player development contract, ensuring the Herd will remain Toronto's Triple-A affiliate through the 2018 season. Since 2013, 1.6 million fans have come to Coca-Cola Field to see the future Blue Jays stars. Buffalo has won 219 games (219-212) in three seasons with Toronto, their most for a three-year span since 2005-2007 (220). Twelve former Bisons were on the Blue Jays' 2015 ALCS roster.

Pitchers rule

The Bisons have not allowed more than four runs in any game this season, but have only scored more than three runs once themselves.

Blue Jays Update

The Blue Jays (4-5) earned a 7-2 victory over the Yankees last night at Rogers Centre. LHP J.A. Happ allowed just one run over six innings for his first win of the season. Former Bison 2B Ryan Goins had three more hits, including two doubles, to raise his early-season average to .321. Toronto hosts New York again tonight in the rubber match for their three-game series.
