Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Thad Weber and the Mud Hens shut down the Bats in Louisville on Thursday night by a score of 2-0. Toledo is now 3-1 on the season, which is good for first place in the International League West.

A pitcher's duel was the highlight through the first four innings of the game, with Louisville SP Robert Stephenson striking out seven Mud Hens batters during that span. However, Stephenson lasted only six innings, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned). Mud Hens starter Thad Weber (6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO) saw success throughout his first start of the season, notching two double play balls in the first three frames. Efficiency was key for Weber all evening, as 50 of his 75 pitches were recorded as strikes.

Lefty Blaine Hardy pitched the seventh inning in relief for the Hens as part of his rehab assignment from the Tigers. In one inning of work, Hardy allowed one hit and struck out two. Reliever Alex Wilson, also on rehab, pitched well in his second Hens appearance of the season. A night after allowing one earned run in 2/3 innings pitched, the righty knocked off the Bats in the eighth inning with ease. RHP Bobby Parnell closed the game for the visiting team.

Louisville managed only six hits (all singles) throughout the game. In fact, pitching has been a strong suit for the Hens squad thus far in 2016. The team has allowed only four runs through the first four games of the season.

The only scores of the game came in the fifth inning when DH Wynton Bernard stole second and was sent home shortly after via an RBI double off the bat of 2B Tommy Field. CF Cameron Maybin, on rehab from Detroit, notched his first hit as a Hen when he knocked in a double to the gap in left center field, scoring Field.

Toledo returns to action tomorrow at Louisville for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
