Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

HOME AWAY FROM HOME: Kyle Haynes and Branden Pinder combined on a four-hit shutout as the SWB RailRiders bested the Pawtucket Red Sox on Wednesday afternoon, 1-0. The RailRiders swept the three-game series for their 15th win over their last 18 games at McCoy Stadium.

SWISHALICIOUS: Nick Swisher has signed a minor league deal with the Yankees and joined the RailRiders. Over a dozen MLB seasons, including four with the Yankees from 2009-12, he has hit .249/.351/.447/.799. An All-Star with the Yankees in 2010 when he hit .288/.359/.511/.870 with 29 home runs, he was last in the big leagues last season with both Cleveland and Atlanta. He is in the lineup tonight as the first baseman batting sixth.

ONE-RUN FUN: A year ago, SWB went a league-best 27-19 (.587) in one-run games. Yesterday marked the team's first single-score game of 2016.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: Haynes (1-0) earned the season's first win by an SWB starting pitcher, Pinder recorded the year's first save and the PawSox became the first team to turn a double play against the RailRiders.

EASY EDDY: Much like he did against Rochester on Friday night, catcher Eddy Rodriguez came through for SWB yesterday with the bases loaded. On this occasion, it was a well-placed RBI groundout to second that sent Donovan Solano home for the game's only run.

NO SCORE FOR YOU: Bridging back to Tuesday's win at McCoy Stadium, SWB pitching has not allowed a run in 17 straight innings.

NOT-SO-GENTLE BEN: Gamel, last season's IL Rookie of the Year, has broken out of his early season funk. He entered the Pawtucket series 1-for-13 with no walks and five strikeouts as the everyday leadoff man. After going 3-for-4 on Monday while falling a home run short of the cycle, he posted a 2-for-4 night with a walk and a run scored Tuesday. Yesterday, his double proved the team's only extra-base hit in the game. As the fourth SWB outfielder to begin 2015, he hit .383/.448/.617/1.064 last April en route to a season-long slashes of .300/.358/.472/.830. That included a league-best 14 triples. In 17 games played against Pawtucket last season, Gamel slashed .314/.351/.571/.923 with three homers and 11 RBIs.

FEAST OR FAMINE: The RailRiders have failed to score in 42 of their 51 innings (82%) through six games. Of their 24 runs scored this season, 19 (79%) have come between four frames: a six-run sixth versus Rochester on Friday; Monday's five-run fifth at Pawtucket; and Tuesday night with a three-run first and five in the fourth. Last year's RailRiders ranked among the IL's best in batting average (1st, .271), runs scored (1st, 4.3/game), on-base percentage (1st, .339) and slugging (4th, .389).

NEMESIS: The RailRiders posted more wins against Pawtucket (13-6) than any other team in 2015. They went 5-3 in the Ocean State and 8-3 at PNC Field. They have taken 11 of 14 and 22 of 28 in the series going back to 2014. That includes wins in 15 of 18 at McCoy Stadium, outscoring the PawSox, 85-41.

OFF THE RAILS: The RailRiders led the IL with 42 road wins last season...They also posted the most divisional wins in the circuit, going 52-38 (.578) against their IL North brothers...Syracuse enters tonight leading the league in winning percentage at 4-1...The RailRiders stand just a half-game back of the Chiefs in the IL North at 4-2...The Chiefs sport multiple men who have had SWB time including Brendan Ryan and Scott Sizemore.
