Buffalo Bisons News Release
After a one hour and ten-minute rain delay, a game was played at Huntington Park in Columbus Friday night, but the Bisons lost 6-5 on a walk-off single by Drew Maggi in the ninth.
Yandy Diaz's solo shot to open the final inning tied the game and Maggi's single thwarted a late-inning Bisons' comeback.
Before game-winning hit, the Bisons erased a four-run deficit during a rally that started in the eighth and extended into the ninth. The comeback tied the game and eventually allowed Buffalo to take a 5-4 lead. Originally, the Clippers held a 4-0 advantage thanks in large to a pair of solo home runs by a rehabbing Brandon Guyer.
Rowdy Tellez's two-RBI double brought the Herd within two runs in the eighth. Then, in the ninth, Tim Lopes' RBI-single shaved the Columbus lead to just one run and a sacrifice fly from Dwight Smith Jr. on a pinch-hit at-bat evened the game at four runs apiece.
Later in the inning, Lourdes Gurriel's RBI-single allowed Lopes to score from second on a close play at the plate to give the Bisons their first lead of the game, 5-4.
Buffalo was held scoreless through the first seven innings and even though the Bisons took the loss, the Herd outhit the Clippers 11 to 10.
The Bisons struggled to find a rhythm against Clippers' starter Mitch Talbot. Through the first six turns at the dish, the Herd recorded just two hits--an infield single by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. in the first and a long single that one-hopped the outfield wall by Danny Jansen in the fourth.
Despite the unwanted result, three Bisons registered multi-hit games. Jansen went 2-5 with two singles and scored a run. Reese McGuire also had two singles and a run. Gurriel Jr. finished his night with three hits--all singles--and an RBI in addition to scoring one run.
