June 9, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
A five-run bottom of the ninth lifted the Charlotte Knights to an 8-6 victory Saturday nightagainst the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. A three-run walk-off home run by Casey Gillaspie capped the rally for Charlotte.
Ben Lively tossed six-innings and allowed an unearned run while striking out six and allowing just five hits. Jake Thompson tossed an inning and a third in relief. Thompson has allowed just two runs in 15.2 innings of relief dating back to May 8.
The Pigs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the second inning against TJ House. Damek Thomscha drove in his first run in Triple-A with an RBI single to put the IronPigs up 2-0. Lehigh Valley got RBIs by Matt McBride, Dean Anna and Mitch Walding to go up 5-0.
McBride extended his hitting streak to seven games with a solo home run in the top of the fourth. McBride has nine hits and three home runs during his seven-game hitting streak.
After plating two run in the bottom of the seventh, the Knights rallied back for five runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off against the Pigs. After a two run double by Mason Robbins made it a one run ball game, Gillaspie homered to left-field against Pedro Beato (1-2) to complete the come back.
The IronPigs and Knights wrap their three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m. Cole Irvin goes for his IL-leading 8th win against Carson Fulmer.
The Pigs return home on Monday, June 11, for an eight-game homestand against the Buffalo Bisons and Pawtucket Red Sox. The Pigs and Bisons will play a Monday-Wednesday with a Tuesday twin bill before the PawSox come to town for a four-game series that runs through the weekend.
