Louisville Bats News Release
MOOSIC, Pa. - The Louisville Bats (22-36) exploded for 20 hits to take game two of a three-game series with Scranton/Wilkes Barre, 9-4, on Saturday night at PNC Field. The 20 hits mark the most for the Bats since April 20, 2016, in a 16-5 win over the Columbus Clippers.
Louisville wasted no time getting the hit parade started as third baseman Nick Senzel, batting in the leadoff spot for the first time in his professional career, singled into center field to open the game. Senzel followed his hit up by stealing second before being driven home on a single by right fielder Gabriel Guerrero. Left fielder Phillip Ervin drove home second baseman Dilson Herrera on a single before center fielder Mason Williams cleared the bases of Ervin and Guerrero with a single of his own, giving the Bats a 4-0 advantage after their first trip to the plate.
Shortstop Blake Trahan singled home runs in the fifth and seventh innings for Louisville. Guerrero sent a 2-1 pitch in the eighth inning out the park for a solo home run, his second of the season, for run number seven before an RBI double by Senzel and a Herrera single in the ninth capped the Bats scoring at nine runs.
The RailRiders never got closer than two runs of Louisville, cutting the lead to 4-2 in the first after taking advantage of a passed ball and then making it 5-3 following a solo shot by second baseman Tyler Wade in the fifth. Scranton scored its final run in the ninth inning on a RBI double by third baseman Brandon Drury that plated Wade.
Senzel and Guerrero led the offensive onslaught for the Bats as both went 4-for-6. Following closely behind them was Herrera and Trahan who picked up three hits apiece, while Ervin and Williams put up two hits. First baseman D.J. Peterson and catcher Joe Hudson, who doubled in the ninth, capped the big evening for Louisville with one hit respectively.
Lefty Brandon Finnegan (2-4, 4.36) picked up his second consecutive win in as many starts on the bump for the Bats. Finnegan tossed five innings recording four strikeouts while giving up six hits, three walks, and three earned runs on 87 pitches, 50. Former University of Louisville Cardinal Josh Rogers (5-5, 3.72) suffered the defeat after four and two-thirds innings of work. Rogers allowed 13 hits and five runs while walking two and striking out three batters.
Louisville looks to take the series against the RailRiders in a rubber match on Sunday afternoon. Cody Reed (0-4, 4.69) is scheduled to make the start for the Bats against Scranton's David Hale (2-2, 4.58). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET at PNC Field.
