Lawrenceville, GA - The Syracuse Chiefs fell, 1-0, to the Gwinnett Stripers Saturday night at Coolray Field after the game was called due to rain after just four and a half completed innings. The umpires asked for the tarp with a runner on second for Gwinnett and no-one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the game was officially called after an hour and two minute rain delay. With the home team batting with the lead in the bottom of the fifth, the game was called as an official game.

Gwinnett (25-34) scored in the first inning for the second night in a row. Dustin Peterson walked with one out against Phillips Valdez. After a fly out, Carlos Franco singled to put runners on first and second, and Phil Gosselin hit an RBI single to score Peterson and give the Stripers a 1-0 lead.

Syracuse (28-31) had just one hit in its five turns at-bat against Matt Wisler before the game was called. Jake Lowery singled to right field in the third inning but was stranded at second.

The Chiefs and Stripers conclude their series Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Cesar Vargas is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite Lucas Simms for Gwinnett.
