Today's Game

The Bisons look to even up the series with the Durham Bulls after dropping the opener 8-1. RHP Chris Rowley makes his second start of the season for The Herd. Rowley worked five innings of scoreless work on April 13 against Indianapolis to secure his first win of the season. Today marks the eighth road game of the season, with the team completing their six-game road trip tomorrow before a scheduled off day. The Herd opens a three-game series vs. Pawtucket on Friday.

About Last Night

The Bulls were able to use an early miscue to their advantage, and SS Willy Adames hit for the cycle in Durham's 8-1 over Buffalo on Monday night. Adames completed the first cycle in the Bulls' Triple-A franchise history with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Joe Biagini completed 5.1IP but was saddled with the loss, giving up 6H and 4R/ER in the start. 1B Rowdy Tellez collected a pair of hits, his second multi-hit game of the season, in the losing effort. OF Dwight Smith Jr. reached base for the seventh straight game with a walk. He also was credited with an RBI in the sixth inning in the losing effort. RHP Forrest Snow tied a career-high with 9 strikeouts for his first win of the season.

Durham (1-0)

The Bulls are coming off of a successful 2017 season that saw the top affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays win both the IL Governors' Cup Championship and Triple-A National Championship. Jared Sandberg managed Durham to the championships in his third season with the team, and has returned for 2018. The Bulls boast three of the top six prospects in the Rays organization. SS Willy Adames is ranked #2, while 1B Jake Bauers is #5 according to MLB.com. The two combined to go 5-9 with 5RBI against Buffalo on Monday, including back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning.

Player of the Week

OF Dalton Pompey was named the Bisons Player of the Week after he collected at least one base hit in each of his three games since being activated off of a Major League rehab assignment and optioned to The Herd. Pompey also has four steals in three games. He reached base three times total on Sunday's loss to Norfolk to record a .500 OBP. He also hit safely in all four games he appeared in for Dunedin (A-Adv) during his rehab assignment. Pompey was placed on the DL on March 29 with a right wrist sprain during Spring Training.

Transactions

The Bisons activated LHP Chad Girodo from extended Spring Training on Monday, and in a corresponding move LHP Tim Mayza was recalled by Toronto as RHP John Axford was placed on the team's bereavement list.

Dwight Smith Jr.

OF Dwight Smith Jr. has reached base in seven straight games, and eight of the nine games played this season. Smith Jr. lost his hitting streak on Sunday, but reached on a walk. He went 0-3 with a BB and RBI in the team's loss to Durham on Monday. Smith Jr. holds a .455 OBP to start the season, third highest on the team.

Blue Jays Update

Toronto had the day off on Monday following their series in the Bronx that concluded over the weekend. Former Bison starter J.A. Happ gets the series opener against the Boston Red Sox at 7:07 p.m. LHP Chris Sale starts for Boston. The Jays trail the Red Sox by four games heading into the three-game series at Rogers Centre. Toronto closes out their six-game homestand with three games against the Texas Rangers over the weekend as well.
