Charlotte Knights News Release
(LOUISVILLE, KY) -- The Charlotte Knights dropped the middle game of their three-game series against the Louisville Bats from Louisville Slugger Field on Tuesday night by a score of 5-1. The loss snapped Charlotte's two-game winning streak. The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.
RHP Ricardo Pinto (0-1, 3.60) made his debut with the Charlotte Knights and was solid despite being saddled with the hard-luck loss. Pinto gave up just two runs on four hits over five innings of work. It was his first start with the Knights since he was promoted from Winston-Salem (High-A) on April 20th. He went 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts with the Dash this season (10.2 IP).
Offensively for the Knights, first baseman Casey Gillaspie led the way with two of the club's four hits. Gillaspie finished the night 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Outfielder Jacob May went 1-for-2 with an RBI. May also swiped his team-high fourth stolen base of the season. With that steal, May moved into a tie for third all-time in franchise history with Rafael Skeete. Both players now have stolen 54 bases in a Charlotte Knights uniform.
The Knights and Bats will conclude their three-game series from Louisville Slugger Field on Wednesday morning. Pre-game radio coverage of Wednesday's 11:00 a.m. matchup will begin at 10:45 a.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action. RHP Michael Kopech will make the start for the Knights in Wednesday's finale.
KNIGHTS KNOTES: Before the game, the Knights announced two roster moves. OF Daniel Palka was recalled by the Chicago White Sox. He became the fifth player already this season to earn a promotion (RHPs Bruce RondÃÅn, Chris Volstad, Gregory Infante, and Chris Beck are the others)... OF Ryan Brett, who made his Knights debut on Tuesday (0-for-2 with a walk), was promoted from Double-A Birmingham to take Palka's place earlier in the day... Jason Bourgeois is second all-time in Knights franchise history in steals with 71, while Jerry Owens is the franchise leader with 93... BB&T Ballpark will host its final 2018 Sunbelt Rentals Collegiate Baseball Series game on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. as Appalachian State University hosts Gardner-Webb University... The Knights return home to BB&T Ballpark on Friday.
