LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (6-9) defeated the Charlotte knights (8-10) by a 5-1 score on Tuesday night at Louisville Slugger Field. Left-hander Cody Reed (0-0, 3.00) was solid in his season debut for Louisville tonight, and Eugenio Suarez reached base three times in a Major League rehab assignment.

The Knights struck first with a run off Reed in the top of the third, but their lead did not last long, as Rosell Herrera's two-run home run in the bottom of the third gave the Bats a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish.

Herrera, whose home run added to his league-leading 10 extra-base hits, went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI in the Bats' 5-1 win over the Knights. Reed went 3.0 innings, giving up one earned run on one hit, walking two and striking out three on 49 pitches, 32 strikes.

Right-hander Domingo Tapia (1-1, 3.48) got the win for Louisville, throwing 4.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen in a stellar effort. It was his second relief effort of at least three innings for the Bats this season.

Sebastian Elizalde's three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh helped solidify Louisville's win, his second home run in as many games for the Bats.

Eugenio Suárez appeared in a Louisville uniform for the first time since the 2015 season, this time on Major League rehab appearance after suffering a fractured thumb. In his first plate appearance, Suárez struck out looking, then proceeded to reach base safely in three consecutive plate appearances with two walks and a double, respectively.

Charlotte starting pitcher Ricardo Pinto (0-1, 3.60) was tagged with the loss, going 5.0 innings and giving up two earned runs on four hits and a home run, walking four and striking out four.

The Bats will look to clinch the series tomorrow against the Knights with first pitch set for 11:00 a.m. Sunday. The Bats will start right-hander Robert Stephenson (1-2, 3.12) and the Knights will go with the number two prospect in the White Sox organization, right-hander Michael Kopech (0-1, 2.40).
