Toledo Mud Hens News Release

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Christin Stewart delivered his best offensive performance at the Triple-A level as the Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Pawtucket Red Sox 9-2 on Tuesday at McCoy Stadium.

Stewart finished 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, two singles, two RBI, and a pair of runs scored. Jason Krizan also had a stellar showing at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three singles, a walk, an RBI, and three runs, while Ronny Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs.

Winners in eight of their last 10, the Mud Hens (13-5) got another strong start from Chad Bell, who pitched a season-high four innings, allowing one earned run on a hit and a walk while striking out one batter. Victor Alcantara was credited with his second win of the year after giving up one earned run in three innings of relief. The result keeps the Mud Hens 2.5 games above Indianapolis atop the West Division standings.

Toledo got off to a quick start, as Mikie Mahtook hit a leadoff double to left before Krizan lined a base hit into center to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Dawel Lugo grounded into a 6-4-3 double play, but Mahtook scored to give the Mud Hens a 1-0 edge after half an inning of play.

The Mud Hens added to their lead with three runs in the top of the third. Rodriguez doubled to left and Krizan walked to put runners on first and second with two down. Lugo then lined a base hit into left to drive in Rodriguez and extend Toledo's lead to 2-0.

The line continued moving as Stewart sent a bloop single into left to score Krizan and give the Mud Hens a three-run advantage. Toledo added a fourth run when Jim Adduci grounded a base hit through the right side to plate Lugo.

Pawtucket (8-7) got on the board when Xander Bogaerts led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run to right, cutting the deficit to 4-1. However, Stewart answered back for the Mud Hens in the top of the sixth with a leadoff home run of his own, sending a sharp line drive over the right-field fence for his third round-tripper of the campaign.

Toledo recorded two more runs an unusual sequence in the top of the seventh. Krizan ripped a base hit into left to drive in Rodriguez, but a throwing error by Pawtucket third baseman Jordan Betts allowed Krizan to circle the bases and increase the Mud Hens' lead to 7-2 heading into the stretch.

The night went from bad to worse for the Red Sox, as the Mud Hens wrapped up the scoring with a pair of runs in the ninth. After Krizan scored on a wild pitch, Adduci lined a base hit into right to plate Stewart and give Toledo a comfortable 9-2 cushion.

The Mud Hens conclude their road trip on Wednesday as they go for the series win against Pawtucket, with first pitch from McCoy Stadium scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Toledo returns to Fifth Third Field on Friday for a 7:05 p.m. tilt versus the Louisville Bats.
