August 6, 2023 - International League (IL)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Buffalo Bisons scored early on Sunday, but despite 12 hits the Herd could only muster four runs in a 6-4 loss to the division foe Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
Nathan Lukes, the first batter of the game, gave former Bison Sean Anderson, the IronPigs starting pitcher on Sunday, a rude awakening with a home run to right field to make the score 1-0 Bisons.
Buffalo's lead lasted till the bottom of the second inning, when the IronPigs' Dustin Peterson answered with a homer of his own to tie the game at 1-1.
Lehigh Valley took the lead in the bottom of the third. Kody Clemens started the IronPig rally with a walk, and then Aramis Garcia singled to right field, moving Clemens to third. Garcia promptly stole second base, and then Darick Hall singled the two runners home to make it 3-1 IronPigs.
Buffalo cut into the lead in the fifth inning by way of a passed ball. Spencer Horwitz walked and then Addison Barger doubled him over to third, before he scored on a pitch that squirted by the catcher Garcia, making the score 3-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, Darick Hall continued his hot day with a solo home run to make the score 4-2 in favor of the IronPigs.
Another home run, this time from Scott Kingery, further extended the IronPig lead in the sixth. Kingery's blast made it 6-2, scoring Simon Muzziotti, who had reached on an error by Luis De Los Santos earlier in the inning.
Buffalo answered back in the seventh with two runs to cut Lehigh Valley's lead to 6-4. The Bisons loaded the bases, and then IronPig hurler Braden Zarbnisky walked Jamie Ritchie and then hit Cam Eden, forcing in a run both times.
Buffalo didn't get a runner in scoring position in the last two innings, and despite knocking 12 hits, lost the series finale to Lehigh Valley 4-6. It's the first time that the Bisons have lost consecutive games since being swept in a double-header on June 29.
After enjoying an off day in New England on Monday, Buffalo plays the Worcester Red Sox at Polar Park in downtown Worcester starting on Tuesday.
