June 19, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Bisons won their second extra inning game in the last three days on Sunday, beating the IronPigs 5-3 on Father's Day afternoon. The Herd takes three of four from Lehigh Valley in a series at Coca-Cola Park.
In the top of the 10th inning, Jio Mier connected for a two-run home run, breaking a 3-3 tie that had held since the seventh inning. Mier's bomb, which came off reliever Michael Mariot, is just his second homer of the year, with his first long ball of the season coming on Friday against the Pigs.
Left fielder Andy Burns had three of the Bisons' 10 hits, and was a triple shy of the cycle.
Burns put Buffalo up 1-0 in the second inning, shooting a solo home run off starter David Buchanan. Burns, in his second game since returning to the Herd after a stint with the Blue Jays, now has three homers this year. He doubled in the top of the fifth, and scored on a sac-fly by Junior Lake to make it 2-0.
Bisons' starter Wade LeBlanc retired the first eight hitters he faced, before Darnell Sweeney ripped a single up the middle in the third. He was thrown out by catcher A.J. Jimenez on a stolen base attempt.
Five Lehigh Valley singles in the bottom of the fifth tied the game at two. With two runners on base for the first time against LeBlanc, Cedric Hunter cut the Bisons' lead in half, picking up a RBI single. Emmanuel Burriss tied the game at two with a single with two runners on. A running catch by Andy Burns on a shot by J.P. Crawford ended the inning, stranding runners on the corners.
The IronPigs put runners on the corners in the sixth, when Max Stassi gave the Pigs a 3-2 lead, drilling a double in to leftfield. LeBlanc then struck out Cedric Hunter with runners on second and third, keeping it a one-run game.
Buffalo tied the score at three in the top of the seventh, as A.J. Jimenez bounced into a double play that scored Casey Kotchman.
LeBlanc left after 6.0 innings, allowing three earned runs and a season-high 10 hits. IronPigs' starter Buchanan left with the score tied at three, pitching 7.2 innings, yielding nine hits. Neither starter issued a walk, and both allowed three earned runs and struck out four hitters, earning no-decisions.
Colt Hynes entered in the bottom of the seventh for the Herd, and stranded a J.P. Crawford triple. Ben Rowen hurled a perfect eighth inning.
With Aaron Loup on the mound in the bottom of the ninth, IronPigs' first baseman Max Stassi and manager Dave Brundage were both ejected for arguing balls and strikes by home plate umpire Roberto Ortiz. Loup is creditied with his second win of the season.
Dustin Antolin earned his seventh save of the year with a scoreless 10th inning.
The Bisons will now head home, and begin a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field with the Louisville Bats. First pitch on Monday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with Roberto Hernandez taking the pump for the Herd. Jon Moscot is slated to oppose him for Louisville.
