Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The RailRiders scored five early runs to back a dominant Luis Severino on Saturday night and coasted to a 7-1 victory over the Gwinnett Braves at PNC Field. The RailRiders have won seven of their last nine while the Braves fell for the fourth time in five games.

SEVVY SPECIAL: Severino (3-0) fired a career-long 8.1 innings of three-hit ball for the longest outing by a RailRider this season. He gave up one run, walked three and whiffed five on 104 pitches (86 strikes). In his last three starts he has gone 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and .147 BAA while striking out 20 against six walks over 21.1 IP. No SWB hurler has tossed a nine-inning complete game since Adam Warren on June 9, 2011 in a 10-1 demolition of Charlotte at PNC Field.

GUILTY AS CHARGED: Aaron Judge blasted an opposite-way two-run homer on a 1-for-3 night with a walk, a steal and two runs scored. After his team-best 10th dinger and third in seven games, he has an even split of big flies at home (5) and on the road (5). He has not yet been caught in five stolen-base attempts on the season. His average bottomed out at .221 after an 0-for-3 day versus Columbus on June 2 during an 0-for-24 tailspin. Since then he has reached base in 14 of 15 going 19-for-54 with three homers, 11 RBIs, 13 walks and 19 runs scored. In that time he has slashed .352/.489/.593/1.078. His season-long OBP has risen by nearly 50 points (.285-.332) with 45% of his overall walk total in the 15-game run.

DOUBLE VISION: Gary Sanchez smashed a pair of doubles, connected on a sac fly and scored a pair of runs. The everyday catcher leads the team with 16 two-basers. He has reached base safely in 11 of his last 12 games despite missing two-and-a-half weeks in that time on the DL (cracked right thumb). In those 12 games played he has gone 15-for-47 with five doubles, two homers, nine RBIs and eight runs scored while slashing .319/.365/.553/.919.

I'M JUST A CAVE MAN: Jake Cave collected his team-best fifth triple and finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Including his time with Double-A Trenton to start the season he has eight total three-basers, tying him for third in MiLB. Among the names deadlocked with Cave is Advanced-A Tampa's Jorge Mateo who went 1-for-2 as the leadoff man in last night's Florida State League All-Star Game. Cave has hit safely in six straight and 10 of 11. He has taken advantage of PNC Field's wide gaps, hitting .315/.342/.548/.890 at home with four of his five Triple-A triples.

MULLEE MELEE: Conor Mullee kept Severino's line in tact by stranding an inherited runner and whiffing one while recording the game's last two outs. He leads all IL relievers in batting average against (.167) and fewest baserunners/9 IP (8.04) while standing second in highest K/9 IP (11.2). He co-leads the team in wins (4), ranks second on the squad in saves (4) and has allowed just three runs (two earned) over his 31.1 innings for a 0.57 ERA.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME?: At PNC Field, the RailRiders have slashed .256/.318/.386/.704 while scoring 4.06 runs/game. On the road, the team has slashed .268/.343/.406/.749 while scoring 4.89 runs/game. The team has played just above .500 baseball at home (18-17), but leads the IL with 22 road victories. They are on pace to win 45 games away from NEPA. That would tie the franchise record set by Marc Bombard's 2002 Red Barons who won 91 total games with players like Chase Utley, Marlon Byrd, Brett Myers and Joe Roa.

BELIEVE: Nick Swisher walked on a 2-for-4 Friday night. A .234 bat after an 0-for-5 game versus Columbus on June 4, in 10 games since he has gone 15-for-40 with three homers, 10 RBIs, eight walks and six runs scored. In that span, he has slashed .375/.479/.600/1.079, lifting his overall average by nearly 30 points in less than two weeks to .263, the best it has been since he ended play on May 9 at .271.

J.D.: Jonathan Diaz got aboard twice as the nine-hole hitter on Friday, going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Over his last 10 games played starting on June 7, he has walked 10 times while going 9-for-33 for an impressive .467 OBP. No IL player has more walks over that span.

OFF THE RAILS: Paid attendance of 9,298 made for SWB's seventh fixed-seat sellout (7,115)...The RailRiders haven't won a home series since sweeping Indianapolis over three games from May 13-15...They must win today to avoid a series defeat...The squad has lost eight of its last 13 home games since giving the Indians a broom cleaning.
