
Bishop's Buzzer-Beater Lifts Vipers over Energy 120-119

HIDALGO, Texas, February 21, 2015 - A buzzer-beater shot from Tony Bishop secured a 120-119 win for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (18-15) over the Iowa Energy (16-16) tonight at State Farm Arena.
Bishop led the Vipers with a double-double 23 points and 12 rebounds. Houston Rockets assignee Clint Capela and Jaron Johnson also added 23 points apiece. Toure' Murry scored a triple-double 18 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists. Tonight's stat line marks the second triple-double for Murry this season. Geron Johnson chipped in 11 points.
Damien Wilkins led Iowa with 32 points. Kalin Lucas added 21 points. Larry Owens and Diante Garrett each added 15 points, and Ferrakohn Hall tallied 14 points.
Hall made the first basket of the game with a three-pointer. Jaron Johnson responded with a shot from beyond the arc to tie the game at three points. The lead changed three times during the quarter until Luca sank a free-throw, followed by a three-pointer to take a 21-17 lead. Iowa led the remainder of the first half. At the end of the quarter, Iowa led 35-31 and at halftime, the Energy were up 65-60.
The Vipers continued to fight throughout the second half. Midway through the third quarter, Mitchell tied the game at 78 points with a layup. Owens responded with a shot to put Iowa back on top 80-78. With 4:57 on the clock Jaron Johnson tied the game again at 82 points with a layup. Thomas responded with a layup to take the 84-82 lead for the Energy. Iowa held on to the lead and ended the third quarter on top 95-86.
RGV held on throughout the fourth quarter. With 0:50.5 remaining, Geron Johnson made a layup to take the Vipers' first lead of the second half, 116-115. The teams battled for control in the final minute until Bishop made tip shot at the buzzer to win the game 120-119.
Next up, the Vipers hit the road for a six-game road trip. The team's first stop is in Oklahoma City when the Vipers face the Blue Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. Locally, Pepper's at Uptown is hosting a viewing party. Food and beverage specials will be available throughout the night.
