Idaho Finishes Bakersfield 124-116

Boise, Idaho - The Stampede used a 45-point fourth quarter to finish off the Bakersfield Jam 124-116 Saturday night, marking a season-high total for points in one quarter. Jack Cooley recorded another strong performance, scoring a team-high 23 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.

The teams traded baskets throughout the first half, with neither grabbing a lead larger than six points. Stampede guard Nick Wiggins scored eight of his 22 points in the first quarter, propelling Idaho to a 52-50 lead at halftime. Jam guard Xavier Munford hit a step-back jumper and the end of the third, giving the Jam an 81-79 advantage. The fourth quarter belonged to the Stampede, as they went on to score 45 points in the frame and close out the Jam on the free-throw line. Idaho led by 13 points with two minutes remaining before Bakersfield began fouling, forcing the Stampede to make free-throws down the stretch.

Cooley led all scorers with 23 points, while fellow forward Jerrelle Benimon posted 21 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. Jermaine Taylor pitched with 17 points and seven assists, helping Idaho defeat the division leaders. In his first game with the Stampede in two months, Kevin Murphy scored 14 points off the bench.

Bakersfield was led by Mac Koshwal's 22 points and Jamil Wilson recorded 20 points and 14 rebounds. The Jam shot just 44 percent from the field, while allowing the Stampede to shoot 59 percent. Jerel McNeal added 21 points in the losing effort.

The Stampede will host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Friday (Feb. 27) and Saturday (Feb. 28) at CenturyLink Arena.
