
Energy Fall on a Buzzer Beater to the Vipers

Hidalgo, T.X. - The Iowa Energy (16-16) fell 120-119 to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (18-15) Saturday night at State Farm Arena.
The Energy were led by Damien Wilkins with a game-high 32 points, sevens rebounds and five assists. Kalin Lucas added 21 points. All five Energy starters scored at least 14 points in the game. Iowa combined for 17 three-pointers, with Lucas leading the way with five. The Vipers had three players, Jaron Johnson, Tony Bishop and Clint Capala with 23 points.
It was a fast paced first quarter with four lead changes. The Energy knocked down four three-pointers to lead them to a 35-31 first quarter lead over the Vipers. Damien Wilkins and Kalin Lucas had 11 points each to lead the Energy.
The Energy took control of the second quarter, opening up an 11-point lead. The Energy hit four more three-pointers, bringing their first half total to eight. Iowa shot 50% from the field in the half. Lucas led the Energy with 17 points while the Energy led 65-60 at halftime.
Iowa hit back-to-back threes to start the second half. The Vipers fought back to briefly tie the game with 6:46 left in third. The Energy quickly rebuilt their lead to hold a 95-86 advantage heading into the fourth. Iowa added six more three-pointers in the quarter for a total of 14. Damien Wilkins led the Energy with 12 points in the third.
It was a close battle during the fourth quarter. The Energy maintained the lead for much of the fourth quarter. The Vipers took their first lead since the first quarter with :50.5 left to play. The lead would be exchanged four times in the final minute of play. Tony Bishop hit the game-winning buzzer beater tip-in as time expired and the Vipers won 120-119.
