Montgomery Biscuits News Release
BILOXI, Mis. - After six postponed games the Biscuits finally returned to action, but could not write a happy ending as they were defeated by the Biloxi Shuckers 4-3 (10) in the series opener.
In the top of the first, the Biscuits were itching for action as Austin Shenton delivered a solo home run to right field. In the very next at-bat Kameron Misner smashed another home run to right for the Biscuits to go up 2-0.
Shenton recorded his second RBI of the night from a sacrifice fly that scored Ronny Simon to improve the Biscuit lead to 3-0. For the next four innings, the Shuckers would be held scoreless and only obtain one hit to the Biscuits ace Taj Bradley. Bradley was able to obtain six strikeouts in four innings of pitching during his time on the mound.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Shuckers completed back-to-back singles from Sal Frelick and Felix Valerio. With Joey Weimer at the plate and two on, Weimer crushed one deep that tied the game at three. It was Weimers' 12th home run of the year as he is also averaging a home run in every 10 at-bats.
In the bottom of the eighth, a controversial call was made as the home plate umpire ejected Joey Weimer from the dugout. In response, Shuckers manager Mike Guerrero had a mouthful and was ejected as well, his second time of the season.
Both teams failed to put runs up late as the game moved to extra-innings. In the top of the 10th, the Shuckers secured back-to-back strikeouts as Grant Witherspoon popped up for the final out. Shuckers Frelick singled that moved the winning run 90 feet from home with only one out. With Terence Dotson up to replace Weimer, he recorded his first Double-A hit that was a walk-off winner that gave the Shuckers their first win against the Biscuits of the season and series opener.
In the midst of a 12-game road streak, the loss ties the longest road losing streak in team history with nine. The Biscuits return to action when LHP John Doxakis (0-0, 0.00) makes his debut against RHP Noah Zavolas (0-1, 7.71) at 6:35 PM CT.
The Biscuits return home for Summer Kickoff Weekend with Golden Biscuits Tuesday on Tuesday, June 7th at 6:35 PM CT, Military Wednesday pres. by WOW! on Wednesday, June 8th at 6:35 PM CT, Tank Top Giveaways pres. by ALFA Insurance & Thirsty Thursday on Thursday June 9th at 6:35 PM CT, Family Faith Night on Friday, June 10th at 6:35 PM CT, Youth Sports Night & MAX Fireworks on Saturday, June 11th at 6:05 PM CT, and Kids Sunglasses Giveaway Sunday, June 12th at 3:33 PM CT.
