Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - Behind a gem spun by David Buchanan the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (13-22) snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 triumph over the Syracuse Mets (21-15) on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Syracuse jumped on the scoreboard first on a Luke Ritter solo homer in the second inning, his sixth of the season, to make it 1-0.
The 'Pigs vaulted ahead in the third. Walks to Jordan Luplow, Darick Hall, and Esteban Quiroz loaded the bases before Jim Haley came through with two outs, ripping a two-run single, to make it 2-1 Lehigh Valley.
Another solo homer for the Mets, this time from Joe Hudson, his first of the year, tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth.
With two on and one out in the sixth, David Dahl singled to rightfield, scoring Matt Kroon with what proved to be the winning run.
The Mets threatened in the seventh, eighth, and ninth, but left the tying run in scoring position in each of those frames. Max Lazar (S, 1) ended the game for the 'Pigs striking out Luisangel Acuna and Ben Gamel after walking the leadoff man.
David Buchanan (3-2) earned the win on his birthday, working 6.2 innings and allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks, striking out five.
David Griffin (1-2) took the loss for the Mets after allowing a run on two hits and a walk in the sixth inning.
The 'Pigs and Mets finish their series on Sunday, May 12 with first pitch slated for 1:35 p.m. David Parkinson (0-1, 5.27) toes the rubber for the 'Pigs while the Mets counter with Tylor Megill (ML Rehab).
