Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y.) -The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 8-6 in waddle-off fashion for an extra inning victory on Friday night at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Ducks took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI groundout by Matt Padgett and a run-scoring single by Kraig Binick off Revs' starter Dumas Garcia. It stayed that way until the top of the seventh when the Revs tied it at two on an error following a base hit by Eric Eymann and a RBI single by Salvador Paniagua off Ducks' reliever Jeremy Hill.
Chris Nowak put York ahead with a three-run home run in the eighth to give York a 5-2 lead. After cutting the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the frame, the Ducks tied the score in the ninth when Binick scored on a wild pitch and Javier Colina brought Kennard Jones home with a triple to send the game to extra innings.
The Revolution stormed back with another homer by Nowak to take a lead in the 10th, but the Quack Attack prevailed, as a sac fly by Freddie Thon tied the game at six and Binick's waddle-off two-run homer gave the Ducks the victory.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Williams tossed six shutout innings, allowing just two hits and three walks, while striking out four. Garcia threw five and one-thirds innings, allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts. Bubbie Buzachero (7-2) got the win after tossing one inning despite allowing the go-ahead homer to Nowak. Michael Nix (0-1) took the loss after one inning of work, allowing four runs on five hits.
Binick was the catalyst tonight, leading the Ducks with three hits and three RBI.
The Ducks continue their homestand on Monday night when they open a three-game series with the Somerset Patriots. Game time is slated for 7:05 PM, with Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
