Bridgeport Splits Doubleheader

(Bridgeport, Conn.) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (25-17, 57-48) earned a split of a doubleheader against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (19-21, 57-48) on Friday at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Bluefish suffered a 1-0 loss in the first game and won 3-2 in the finale.

Game one featured a pitchers' duel. Bluefish starter Matt Pike (8-6) allowed one run in six innings but suffered the loss. Kyle Zaleski threw a scoreless seventh.

Nick Green (9-5) pitched for the Blue Crabs and served six-and-two-thirds scoreless innings before Jim Ed Warden notched his 27th save of the season.

The only run in game one was scored in the fifth by the road team. There were two outs when the Blue Crabs produced three consecutive singles to score the run. Ben Harrison drove in the only run with the last hit of the frame.

In game two, Southern Maryland started the scoring in the third. Tanner Townsend singled to left and Christian Lopez served a run-scoring double to leftcenter. After an out had been recorded, Lopez stole third. A single to center by Brandon Pinckney gave the road squad a two-run advantage.

Bridgeport responded in the bottom of the frame. Michael Moras led off with a single. After the next two Bridgeport batters recorded outs, Andres Perez smacked his 13th homer of the season. His shot to leftcenter tied the game.

Prentice Redman came up with his fourth homer of the year in the bottom of the sixth against Steve Palazzollo (9-4). The shot to left field, with two outs, gave the Bluefish the winning run

Julio Manon surrendered two runs in three innings but did not factor in the decision. Chris Rivera, Antonio Alfonseca (3-4) and Juan Rincon combined to throw the rest of the night with Rincon picking up his 21st save.

Virgil Vasquez tossed five innings but did not pick up the decision. The Blue Crabs' starter allowed two runs before Palazzolo gave up the final run of the night in an inning on the mound.

The Bluefish start a three game home series against Lancaster Barnstormers with a doubleheader on Monday. First pitch at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The gates open one hour before first pitch. Kids Eat free Monday is presented by Friendly's
