Emergency Doubleheader Scheduled

Bridgeport, CT - With Hurricane Irene expected make landfall late Saturday evening or early Sunday morning, Bridgeport Bluefish officials elected to move Saturday's game between Southern Maryland and Bridgeport to Friday and make it part of twi-night doubleheader beginning at 6:05. Both games will be seven innings long.

The weather is expected to be clear and comfortable on Friday evening.

The doubleheader will be the fourth of the year for Southern Maryland and their second against the Bluefish. On August 7th, the Blue Crabs split a twin-bill with Bridgeport after rain the previous evening forced the suspension of a 5-5 tie between the two clubs in the fifth inning. Southern Maryland went on to take the suspended game 7-6 while Bridgeport won game two 4-1 the following afternoon at Harbor Yard.

Overall, Southern Maryland is 4-2 in doubleheader games this season. They split another double-dip on July 9th at Camden before sweeping a twin-bill from the Road Warriors at Regency Furniture Stadium on August 11th.

Ironically, the Blue Crabs and Bluefish have a scheduled day-night doubleheader set for next Thursday, September 1st at Regency Furniture Stadium, making it the third twin-bill that will be played between the two teams this season.

In game one of tonight's doubleheader, Southern Maryland will send right-hander Nick Green (8-5, 3.79 ERA) to the hill against fellow-righty Matt Pike (8-5, 3.83 ERA) for the Bluefish. Starters for game two have not been decided by either team. Both games can be heard on www.somdbluecrabs.com.
