Big Third Period Propels Glads to 5-2 Win

DULUTH, Ga - The Gwinnett Gladiators returned to the Arena at Gwinnett Center to defeat division rival Greenville for the second night in a row on a Sing for Santa Saturday.
The Gladiators (17-6-1-0) scored three goals in the final period of the game to defeat the Road Warriors (13-9-1-1) 5-2 and extend their lead atop the South Division and Eastern Conference.
Marietta native Doug Jones scored 4:22 into the third period to break a 2-2 tie. The goal was deflected right over the glove of Greenville goalie Bryan Hince after Casey Pierro-Zabotel fed Jones the puck.
10:55 into the third Pierro-Zabotel scored on a penalty shot against Hince. This was the Gladiators first penalty shot goal on the season, as the Ashcroft, BC native deked out Hince and put a quick shot off the near post and in.
Rookie Evan Bloodoff scored the last goal of the game 13:17 into the third to push Gwinnett's lead to 5-2. Bloodoff deflected a shot from the point into the net through traffic. Captain Andy Brandt and newcomer Jason Clark earned a helper on the play.
The Gladiators are now 7-3-1-0 when playing at home and 16-0-1-0 when scoring first. Coyotes prospect Louis Domingue won his sixth start in a row, stopping 23 shots for Gwinnett.
Gwinnett forward John Scymgeour scored the first goal of the game 6:26 into the opening period. Scrymgeour fought for a rebound in front of the net, and slipped the puck past Hince for his first goal of the season. Corey Fienhage received an assist on the play.
16:05 into the first Francis Verreault put the Road Warriors on the board to tie the score at 1-1 through one period.
The Gladiators regained the lead after Rylan Galiardi scored 6:16 into the second. Galiardi deflected a shot from defenseman Kyle Lawson, with Chris Clackson picking up the second assist. Greenville tied the game when Brandon Wong scored 17:04 into the second, but Gwinnett dominated the third to pick up the win.
The Gladiators return to the Arena at Gwinnett Center tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. to face the Trenton Titans. This is the first meeting between the two teams and Gwinnett's second meeting with an Atlantic Division team.
