Kalamazoo Ends Winless Streak with 4-3 Victory Over Toledo
December 8, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- Sparked by a pair of second period goals from Nick Sirota, the Kalamazoo Wings (10-10-1-1) snapped a season-long four-game winless (0-2-1-1) streak with a 4-3 victory Saturday night at Wings Stadium versus the Toledo Walleye (13-10-0-1).
Scoring just as their first power-play of the game elapsed, Kalamazoo jumped ahead with a tally from Steven Anthony (2nd). Netting his first goal since November 20th, Anthony ripped a slap shot off the crossbar and over the line 14:38 into the contest.
The league's leader in shots helped the Walleye midway in the period, as Willie Coetzee notched his 10th goal of the season to even the score at 1-1.
Taking control in the second period, Kalamazoo was efficient scoring three goals on five shots in the period.
Pulling ahead just 2:30 into the stanza, Kalamazoo reclaimed the lead with a power-play tally from Aaron Clarke (7th).
Sirota (5th) pushed the K-Wings lead to 3-1 a mere 49 seconds later with power-play goal of his own.
Less than four minutes later, Sirota (6th) became of the 10th member of the K-Wings to record a multiple goal game with a one-timer off of a Brett Lysak cross-rink pass.
Toledo cut the Kalamazoo lead to two goals late in the period with a power-play goal from Wes O'Neill. The former K-Wing, now leads all ECHL defensemen with five man-advantage goals.
Toledo's most prolific goal scorer, Luke Glendening (14th) inched the Walleye closer with a redirected tally midway in the third period; however, unlike last Friday, the K-Wings were able to fend off the Walleye's final attempt to even the contest to earn their first victory since November 23rd contest at Wings Stadium versus the Fort Wayne Komets.
Kalamazoo will hit the road to battle the Fort Wayne Komets this Wednesday, December 12th with a 7:30 p.m. encounter at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum.
The K-Wings will return home to Wings Stadium to begin a two-game home stand this Friday, December 14th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Evansville IceMen during Star Wars Night and a FANomenal Friday, featuring $2 beers, $1 Pepsi and in honor of Star Wars Night, $1 Jabba the Hut Dogs.
