Big First Inning Paces Bisons to 14-3 Win over Lehigh Valley

Buffalo Bisons News Release
LENTOWN, PA - Propelled by a massive first inning, the Buffalo Bisons opened up their six-game series with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Tuesday night from Coca-Cola Park with a huge 14-3 win to snap a mini two-game losing streak.
Buffalo sent 14 men to the plate in the top of the first, scoring nine runs off eight hits in what was the Bisons' most prolific offensive inning of the season. Leading things off for the Herd was former Bison and current Blue Jay utility man Cavan Biggio, who began a rehab assignment with the Herd after having been on the COVID-IL since April 25.
Biggio served as the designated hitter and played just an inning in his first rehab game, going 2-2 at the plate with a double, two runs, and two RBIs, all coming off of lefthanded Lehigh starter Ricardo Sánchez.
Sánchez lasted just a third of an inning and gave up nine runs (seven earned) off seven hits in what quickly became a bullpen night for the IronPigs. Gabriel Moreno had another three-hit game and picked up another RBI on a night that saw the Bisons record a season-best 17 hits and saw seven different players drive in runs.
Bowden Francis was able to settle down after allowing a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. The righty lasted 5.1 innings to qualify for his second victory of the season. Francis allowed six hits and three runs, all three were earned, with four walks and three strikeouts in the win.
Graham Spraker and Joe Biagini followed with clean outings of their own, and after the Herd put up a couple garbage-time runs off Lehigh infielder Yairo Muñoz - who pitched the ninth in what was his first ever pitching appearance as a professional - the Herd finished the night with a season-high 14 runs.
The Bisons will look to build off their big performance tomorrow night with Casey Lawrence matched up against fellow righty James Marvel. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EST from Allentown.
