Betances' Strong Start Not Enough Against Senators
June 15, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ) - The Harrisburg Senators (35-28) evened a three-game series at one apiece with their 6-1 win over the Trenton Thunder (39-26) on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park. Thunder starter Dellin Betances only allowed one earned run but received his first loss since April 10. Despite the losing effort, Trenton still has a chance to win their ninth home series in eleven tries in 2011 with a win over the Senators in the series finale on Thursday night.
The only run pushed across the board for Trenton came in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a couple of errors made by the Harrisburg Senators. Jose Pirela scored to bring the Thunder to within a run of the Senators when Addison Maruszak's ground ball to shortstop rolled under the glove of Josh Johnson and into left field. But, that score of 2-1 was as close as the Thunder would get as the Senators added four runs off of the Thunder bullpen late in the ballgame.
In another strong outing, Thunder starter and Yankees top pitching prospect Dellin Betances allowed a couple of runs in the first inning with just one of them being earned. The righty finished the night hurling five innings and giving up just that one earned run. Betances struck out eight Senators and only surrendered three hits.
Trenton will wrap-up its six-game homestand Thursday night at 7:05 PM with the finale of a three-game set with the Harrisburg Senators. RHP Craig Heyer (6-3, 2.97) will get the ball for the Thunder, while Harrisburg will send RHP Tanner Roark (3-2, 6.67). Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 6:45 PM.
Thursday night is another Thirsty Thursday presented by Budweiser and WPST. It's also Educational Support Professionals Night with Postgame Fireworks presented by Phillyburbs.com. Call 609-394-3300 or log on to trentonthunder.com for ticket information and to reserve your seats.
