SeaWolves Stomp Sea Dogs 11-3

The SeaWolves picked up their third win in the last four games as they stomped the Portland Sea Dogs 11-3 on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park.

Erie struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Portland starter Brock Huntzinger. Brandon Douglas doubled with one out and moved to third on a Francisco Martinez single. Rawley Bishop doubled down the left field line, plating both baserunners for a 2-0 Erie lead.

In the third, Douglas doubled with one out for his second hit of the game and he was brought home on a Martinez single for a 3-0 edge.

The Sea Dogs got on the board in the top of the fourth against Erie starter Jacob Turner. Jeremy Hazelbaker led off with a double and moved to third on a Tony Thomas base hit with one out. Chih-Hsien Chiang hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Hazelbaker making it a 3-1 game. Thomas stole second and courtesy of a pair of fielding errors on the play, scored from first making it a one-run game at 3-2.

Erie came right back in the bottom of the inning regaining a three-run edge. Michael Rockett led off with his first triple. He was doubled home with one out by Bryan Holaday extending the lead back to two at 4-2. Holaday scored on an Adam Calderone base hit making it 5-2.

The big inning for Erie came in the last of the fifth. Bishop led off with a walk and moved into scoring position on an Audy Ciriaco groundout. Bishop scored on a Rockett single for a 6-2 lead. C.J. Retherford followed with his first Erie hit, an RBI double to center for a 7-2 Erie advantage. Holaday reached on an error putting runners on the corners for Calderone who singled home Retherford for an 8-2 lead. Jamie Johnson then tripled home a pair for a 10-2 lead and he scored on a Douglas sacrifice fly making it 11-2.

Portland added a run in the ninth against reliever Robbie Weinhardt closing the gap to 11-3 but they would get no closer.

The large lead would be plenty for Turner who improved to 2-1, tossing six innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts. The win for Turner snapped a string of five consecutive no-decisions.
