Senators Use Long Ball to Trip Trenton
June 15, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Senators used long balls from Josh Johnson and Bill Rhinehart to snap their four-game losing streak with a 6-1 win over Trenton. Shairon Martis started for the Senators and pitched six strong innings allowing just one unearned run. Martis improves to 4-2 with the win. Yankees #3 prospect Dellin Betances started and took the loss for Trenton falling to 3-2 on the season.
Johnson homered one-out into the game and the Sens tacked on a second run in the first inning on an error. It was the first of seven errors between the two teams in the game. Leading 2-0 into the bottom of the fourth inning, Martis allowed a lead-off triple to Corban Joseph but stranded him at third with two strikeouts and a fly ball out. Martis finished with five strikeouts and allowed just two hits.
After Trenton sliced into the lead scoring their run in the fifth, the Sens came back with two runs in the seventh on a two-run bases loaded single off the bat of Chris Rahl. Rhinehart capped the scoring with a two-run home run in the ninth inning.
Pat Lehman, Patrick McCoy and Zech Zinicola combined to throw three scoreless innings allowing just a single hit.
Steve Lombardozzi had two hits in the game as did Rahl, who also scored two runs.
The final game of the three game series is Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. with RH Tanner Roark on the mound for the Senators. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and on your ipad or iphone at 6:50 p.m.
