March 12, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas- The Allen Americans defeated the Wichita Thunder tonight, 4-1 in front of 4,654 at the Allen Event Center.
With the victory, the Americans clinched the regular season Berry Conference title, and moved within 2 points of clinching the Governor's Cup for the CHL's best regular season record.
Allen started the scoring with a Nino Musitelli goal at 18:23 of the first period, with Colton Yellow Horn snagging the assist. Through the first period, the Americans held a 14-4 shot advantage over the Thunder.
Brian McMillin buried a beautiful feed from Judd Blackwater at 4:35 of the second period to put the Americans up 2-0.
Bobby Hughes answered back less than a minute later with a goal to put Wichita on the board and bring them within one.
That would be as close as Wichita would get, however, as Liam Huculak and Tobias Whelan added markers at 10:43 and 19:54 respectively.
Chris Whitley, the game's first star, contributed 31 saves for his 22nd win of the season.
The Americans will host the Bloomington PrairieThunder Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM. With a victory, or an overtime loss, the Americans can clinch home ice throughout the postseason.
