Bergenheim assigned to Sound Tigers

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced the assignment of forward Sean Bergenheim to the team by the big club. Bergenheim practiced with the Sound Tigers this morning and is scheduled to play in tonight's preseason game versus the Hartford Wolf Pack at The Rinks at Shelton.

Bergenheim, 21, posted 15 goals, 14 assists, 29 points and 69 penalty minutes in 61 games with the Sound Tigers last season. The 5'11'' 202-pounder from Helsinki, Finland was the Islanders' first choice, 22nd overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He had one goal, one assist, two points and four penalty minutes in 18 NHL games with the Islanders and two goals, two assists, four points and 18 penalty minutes in 20 games with Jokerit Helsinki, as well as two goals, three assists, five points and ten penalty minutes in seven playoff games with the Sound Tigers in 2003-04. He split the previous two years (2001-03) between Jokerit and the Finnish Junior National Team.

Celebrating their fifth anniversary in Bridgeport as the top affiliate of the Islanders, the Sound Tigers will open the 2005-06 regular season with the first of four straight road games when they visit the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this Wednesday, October 5th. Their first home games at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard will be Saturday and Sunday, October 22nd and 23rd when they host the Portland Pirates and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
