Iowa assigned three by Dallas

DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced today that the Dallas Stars have assigned center Yared Hagos, left wing Vojtech Polak and right wing Junior Lessard to the American Hockey League (AHL) club.

Drafted by the Dallas Stars in the third round, 70th overall pick, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Yared Hagos (yeah-red hag-OHS) appeared in 49 games with Timra IK of the Swedish Elite League last season, recording six goals and 15 assists: 49(6/15/21). The 6-1, 205 pound centerman was born on March 27, 1983 in Stockholm, Sweden. He was the only Dallas player to appear in all eight Dallas exhibition games.

The Czechoslovakian-born Polak (PO-lak) was selected in the second round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, 36th overall, by Dallas. The 6-0, 183 pound left winger recorded five points, including three assists in six games with Dallas in the exhibition season: (6/2/3/5).

Selected as the top college hockey player in 2004, the Hobey Baker Award, Junior Lessard registered 63 points, including 32 goals in 45 games at the University of Minnesota-Duluth: 45(32/31/63). Last season with the Houston Aeros, the 6-0, 200 pound forward notched 11 goals and 11 assists: (11/11/22). He had two goals and two assist in six exhibition games with Dallas: 6(2/2/4).

In other news, the Iowa Stars have reassigned goaltender Steve Silverthorn to the club's ECHL affiliate, the Idaho Steelheads, defenseman Kenny Smith to the ECHL's Greenville Grrrowl (South Carolina) and forward Jamie Johnson to the Augusta Lynx of the ECHL.

OPENING WEEKEND: The Iowa Stars begin their inaugural season on October 6th and 8th at Wells Fargo Arena against the Peoria Rivermen and Omaha Knights, respectively. Both games will have a 7:05 PM start time. Tickets to all games can be obtained by calling 515-23-STARS.
