Ontario Clippers News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - The Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario (5-5) defeated the Austin Spurs (5-5) on Friday night, 125-122, behind Anthony Bennett's huge performance.
Bennett, in his first start of the season, scored a game-high 36 points and made eight of nine three-pointers, both Clipper season highs.
The game belonged to Austin in the first half, as they led by as much as 15 and went into halftime with a 14 point advantage. Guard Nick Johnson led the charge as he scored 22 points in the half, making nine of his 12 shot attempts. He would finish with a team-high 32 points, adding seven rebounds and four assists.
The second half told a different story as Agua Caliente outscored the Spurs 37-22 in the third quarter, trimming the 14 point deficit down to one. Bennett led the way with a perfect half, making all eight of his field goal attempts, including six from behind the arc, for 24 points. Two of those three-pointers came on back-to-back possessions to give Agua Caliente a two point lead with four minutes to go. Desi Rodriguez hit four key free throws in the final eight seconds of the game to seal the victory for the Clippers.
Rodriguez provided a spark off the bench with a season-high 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Two-way player Angel Delgado also recorded a career high in the scoring column with 27 points to go along with nine rebounds, missing a double-double for only the second time this season.
The Clippers travel to Oklahoma City to face the Blue on Sunday in the finale of a three game road trip. The game will tip-off at 12 p.m. (PST) inside the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, OK.
