Texas Hands Santa Cruz Second Loss

FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends (6-6) battled through the final seconds to defeat the Santa Cruz Warriors (8-2) 104-102 Friday night in California. The game is the third of a four-game trip for Texas and the first of a double-header between the two conference rivals.
Santa Cruz got off to a quick 6-0 start before Jameel Warney responded for Texas. The two exchanged baskets and saw five lead changes before Texas edged a one-point advantage at the end of the first. The Legends controlled the second, going up by 10. Santa Cruz answered immediately with an 8-0 run but wouldn't get any closer before the half.
With five minutes to play in the third, Santa Cruz caught up to the Legends' hot shooting answering Texas' 63% outside with 55% overall efficiency. Four lead changes later, Texas found themselves on top again with help from back-to-back threes from Rashad Vaughn. The Legends entered the fourth with a four-point advantage and built up to their largest lead of the night (+11) three minutes in. Four minutes later, Kendrick Nunn dropped back-to-back threes of his own and the back-and-forth began. With a minute to play, the teams were tied at 102-all, and after missed opportunities on both ends, Daryl Macon knocked down two of three from the charity stripe to seal the victory for the Legends.
Macon led Texas' scoring efforts with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists. Warney finished with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and a block. Ray Spalding grabbed Texas' only double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks, while Kostas Antetokounmpo also added 11 rebounds, 2 blocks off the bench.
Marcus Derrickson posted 22 points, 11 rebounds for the Warriors while Darius Morris added 12 points, 12 assists. Nunn finished with 21 points, 4 assists off the bench and Will Cherry grabbed 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
