Salt Lake Bees News Release
Salt lake CityâThe Angels announced on Saturday, June 6 that the club has optioned RHP Ben Weber to Triple-A Salt Lake. Weber will be in uniform for the Stingers when they return home from Fresno on Thursday, June 10. RHP Matt Hensley has been recalled by the Angels and appeared in Sunday's game vs. Cleveland throwing a scoreless inning. The Angels announced that LHP Dusty Bergman has been called up to the Angels for his first career major league stint beginning today.
Weber, 34, has been an important part of the Angels' bullpen for the last four years. In 2003, Weber posted a 5-1 record with a 2.69 ERA (80.1 IP â 24 ER) in 62 games for the Halos. His 62 games pitched and 2.69 ERA ranked second on the club behind Brendan Donnelly. LHP Dusty Bergman makes his first trip to the major leagues today. Bergman was added to the Angels' 40-man roster to take RHP Brendan Donnelly's spot, as he was placed on the 60-day disabled list. Bergman, 26, has been a solid reliever for the Stingers this year. He is 1-0 with a 2.83 ERA (35 IP â 11 ER) with six walks and 24 strikeouts in 18 games for Salt Lake.
Other transactions for the Stingers involve LHP Eric Cyr joining the club from double-A Arkansas. Cyr, 25, is a Montreal, Canada native and will join fellow French-Canadian Steve Green on the Stingers' pitching staff. Cyr has posted a 4-2 record and 2.74 ERA (49.1 IP â 15 ER) with 12 walks and 41 strikeouts in nine games (eight starts) for Arkansas this season. Cyr takes RHP Hector Astacio's roster spot, as Astacio was sent to double-A Arkansas from Salt Lake, effective today.
