Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Portland, OR - The Tucson Sidewinders dropped Tuesday's contest 5-1 to the Beavers in the final game of the series. The loss dropped Tucson to 34-25, and evened their 2004 record to 8-8 versus Portland.

Tucson held a 1-0 lead into the 5th inning thanks to strong work from rehabbing starter RHP Shane Reynolds. Reynolds threw 4 1/3 IP allowing 1 run on 2 hits and did not walk a batter. Walks ended up hurting the Tucson bullpen however, as relievers RHP Mike Schultz and LHP Jim Parque combined to allow 5 free passes in 1 2/3 innings of work. 4 of the 5 Beaver beneficiaries eventually came around to score in the 5th and 6th innings thanks to some timely Beaver hitting.

LF Andy Green scored Tucson's only run after leading off the game with a double down the leftfield line. Green added two more doubles in the game giving him a league leading 25 2-baggers on the season.

Former Sidewinder LHP Eddie Oropesa earned the win for Portland to become 1-0 on the season. Schultz took his first loss of the season for Tucson after failing to retire a batter in the 5th. The loss dropped Tucson to 1.5 games behind the division leading Sacramento RiverCats.

Tucson will enjoy their 3rd off day of the season on Wednesday but will pick things up again at home at Tucson Electric Park on Thursday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m. when they will host the Tacoma Rainiers for a 4-game weekend set.
