BURLINGTON, IA - The Burlington Bees withstood gusting winds and frigid temperatures to beat the Great Lakes Loons 6-2 at Community Field Friday night.

Kyle Smit started for the Loons and hurled 4 2/3 innings allowing five runs (all earned). Matt Sartor and Thomas Melgarejo also worked out of the Loons' bullpen.

Andrew Lambo drove in the Loons' lone runs on a base hit to left field in the fifth. He would later be ejected from the game in the eighth inning for arguing a called third strike with home plate umpire Phillip Henry. Henry also ejected Loons' pitching coach Danny Darwin from the game for arguing a called strike to Lambo in the fourth inning.

The miserable weather conditions resulted in a sparse crowd of 263.

"The weather conditions were tough for both teams, but you've gotta play the game," said Loons manager Juan Bustabad. "We need to start hitting better, and our offense needs to start to generate more runs."

The Loons and Bees continue their series Saturday afternoon beginning at 3pm ET. The game time was changed Friday afternoon as a result of potential storms overnight Saturday. Sunday's series finale is also scheduled for 3pm. The Loons will send right-hander Steven Johnson (0-0) to the mound. The game will be carried in Mid-Michigan on ESPN 100.9-FM (WLUN) and online at Loons.com.
