Burlington Bees News Release

Geneva, IL (April 9, 2008) The Burlington Bees ended a four game losing streak by beating the Great Lakes Loons 6-2 Friday night at Community Field. The field conditions were not the most ideal as a strong wind to right field impacted fly balls and also made the temperature feel considerably cooler.

The Bees jumped out on top in the bottom of the first inning and led through the entire game. After leading the inning off with a single, Adrian Ortiz advance to third via a stolen base and a David Lough base hit. Ortiz then scored the first run of the game when Kyle Smit threw a wild pitch. The Bees put two more runs on the board in the second inning. Jamar Walton led off the inning with a homerun to right field. Ryan Eigsti then came up and just missed a homerun as he doubled off the centerfield wall. Eigsti eventually came around to score after advancing to third on a ground-out and then coming home on a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the fifth, the Loons scored two runs to get within one. The Bees then answered in the bottom of the fifth with two runs of their own. The Bees got runners on at second and third with two outs. The first run scored when Alwin Perez scored as a result of a wild pitch. After a walk to Jason Taylor, the Bees had runners at the corners. Taylor broke to steal second, when the throw to second was made, Lough stole home for the fourth run of the game. The Bees tacked on one more run in the eighth inning when Eigsti sacrificed Clint Robinson in from third.

Pitching was once again great for the Bees. Starting pitcher Joe Augustine picked up the win as he went five innings allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Ed Cegarra picked up his first save of the season going four innings allowing just two hits with five strikeouts.

The two teams will play again on Saturday afternoon. Due to weather considerations, the game has been moved up to 2:00 at Community Field. Alex Caldera will get the start for the Bees. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at GoBees.com.
