Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (June 30, 2010) - Rene Oriental picked up his second consecutive multi-RBI game and Hilton Richardson swiped a late base to put himself in position to score a critical insurance run in the Bees' 5-4 win over the Peoria Chiefs on Wednesday night.

The Bees put themselves in the driver's seat early, plating three first inning runs against Peoria starter Ryan Searle (L, 4-2). Gerard Hall's leadoff drag bunt caught the Peoria defense off guard and allowed the speedy leadoff man to reach with his only hit of the night. Deivy Batista followed with a bouncer through the right side. After a strikeout, Joey Lewis drew a walk to load the bases before Oriental stepped in. Oriental, whose two-run single in the third keyed a four-run inning last night, delivered once again, slicing a liner to right to put the Bees up by a pair. Chiefs first baseman Justin Bour gift-wrapped a third run when he hurled a throw past second into left field on an attempted force play.

A error by Searle helped the Bees get started in the fourth. Testa reached on a bobble at first by the pitcher covering the bag, stole second, and advanced to third and home on a pair of groundouts by Lewis and Jose Bonilla respectively.

On the other side, Tyler Sample (W, 3-4) tossed in his fifth quality start to help the cause. The big righty held Peoria to three earned runs on five hits in six innings with six strikeouts and no walks. It marked the first time that Sample, whose 53 walks rank second-most in the Midwest League, made it through a start without issuing a free pass.

The Bees' lead was down to a single tally when they came to the plate after the seventh inning stretch. Richardson drew a key leadoff walk from Chiefs reliever Larry Suarez and soon stole second, his team-high 21st swipe of the year. Though Hall failed in his attempt to sacrifice and Batista followed with a strikeout, Testa bailed the club out with a two-out single to bring home the insurance run.

The run proved vital in the top of the eighth. Ryan Dennick (S, 3) entered the game with two outs and a runner on first and allowed a pair of single, one of which knocked home a run to bring the Chiefs to within one. The southpaw induced a flyout from Jae-Hoon Ha and added a perfect ninth with a pair of punchouts to give the Bees back-to-back wins for the first time since June 1st and 2nd in West Michigan.

The Bees open a three-game series against Wisconsin tomorrow night at Community Field. Enjoy Thirsty Thursday drink specials on beer and Pepsi products thanks to the Mark Warth Agency starting at 5:30 with first pitch to follow at 6:30.
